Rabbi Mishkin

Rabbi Joel Mishkin became the Rabbi of Congregation Beth Ohr in 2014. Ordained at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, Rabbi Mishkin is a graduate of Connecticut College in New London, Connecticut where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Teaching Certificate.

Rabbi Mishkin has tried to embody the spirit of Congregation Beth Ohr, a warm and vibrant synagogue that embraces a traditional liturgy with a progressive, inclusive and egalitarian philosophy. During his years at Congregation Beth Ohr, with the help of a dedicated lay-leadership, Rabbi Mishkin has reinvigorated its Adult Education Offerings, including Scholar in Residence Shabbatonim, and Musical Shabbats. He also teaches two weekly classes via Zoom during the year.

Along with his service to Congregation Beth Ohr, Rabbi Mishkin is a member of the Board of Rabbis in the Heart of New Jersey, recipient of the Rabbi Simon Greenberg Rabbinic Achievement Award from the Jewish Theological Seminary, and a past member of the Chancellor’s Cabinet of the Jewish Theological Seminary.

He recently played a pivotal role in securing Cantor Zahava Fried Taylor, a student at the Academy of Jewish Religion for the position of Yamim NoraimnHazzan for High Holidays 5784 and 5785. He looks forward to continuing to inspire the members of Congregation Beth Ohr in the coming years with his mix of warmth, humor, preaching and pastoral skills.

Rabbi Mishkin is a devoted reader of fiction and non-fiction works and fascinated learning about the art of horology. He is the husband of Beverly Mishkin, Director of Senior Services at Jewish Family and Children’s Service in Princeton, New Jersey. Their sons, Alec and Evan, live in Reston, Virginia and Tallahassee, Florida. You may reach out to Rabbi Mishkin directly at 732-257-7031 or 941-518-8864.
